Always:
Buy from a breeder who is a member of the Canadian Kennel Club and Breed Organization
Buy from a breeder who abides by the Code of Ethics outlined by the organization
Buy from a breeder who registers each puppy with the Canadian Kennel Club
Buy from a breeder who will assist you in training, grooming, and care of your puppy for its entire lifetime.
Buy from a breeder who is involved in showing, training or trialing their dogs. These people are proud of their animals and love doing activities with their four legged family members!
  Always:
Visit the breeders and see how they house and care for their animals
Meet the mother of the puppies. She often determines the temperament of the babies
Ask to see health documentations of the sire and dam of the litter
Discuss guarantees and contracts with the breeder. A responsible, ethical breeder will want to find out about you too! They want their puppy to have the best possible life!

Never:
Buy a puppy through the Internet, a Pet Shop, or an Auction.
Buy a puppy where a third party is involved.
Buy a puppy from a person with multiple breeds or litters. These people are not breeders but only involved in the mass production of puppies. This is done only for their personal gain or profit.

Buying a puppy requires time, patience and research! If it is too easy to obtain a puppy - Buyer Beware!!

An Unregistered dog is considered a cross-bred under the Livestock Act of Canada, yet unethical producers sell these puppies for hundreds of dollars!
To sell such an animal can lead to criminal charges.

Please don’t support puppy mills by financing their operations.
